07. SEO vs Paid Ads

“It's not about 'getting the traffic'- it's about 'getting the targeted and relevant traffic.” - Adam Audette

👉 SEO vs Paid ads: Which one are you investing in for your business? Is one more important to you than the other? Or do you believe they work hand in hand in perfect synergy?

Depending on who you ask, you will hear different answers on which one is better for your business, which should come first, and why you should focus your entire marketing budget on one or the other. This is simply because most marketers are not SEO experts, and most SEO experts are more than likely not the greatest marketers.

The honest truth is that they work hand in hand, and are equally important.

paid ads versus seo which one is better

Let’s dive a little deeper into the value that each of these bring to our business, and why one just isn’t as good without the other.

Part 1: SEO (or Search Engine Optimization)

Let’s start with SEO, and also tie this in with a very popular question I get asked about a lot these days: ‘Do I really need a website? Why waste my time and money on a website when I can just get a landing page together quickly in something like ClickFunnels?’

The answer is no, you don’t need a website if:

❗ You’re willing to pay a higher cost per lead by targeting a completely cold audience, or

❗ You’re confident in your organic efforts on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest (platforms other than Google)

But the most effective and powerful method of organic growth that I have personally found is through Google, ie:

🚀 Create a website, and

🚀 Optimize it for SEO.

Ranking high on Google’s search engine is a long process for sure- think 6 months to a year depending on the strategies you use- but if you’re patient and consistent, it pays off tenfold in the long run. And the reasons are simple:

📌 The people who are searching for your products and services are generally a much warmer audience than your following on social media, meaning that they are ready to buy.

📌 Your followers on social media are usually lurkers, and gathering information at best.

To truly maximize the benefits of having a website, you need to have:

✅ The right tracking codes on your website

✅ A good user experience on your website itself

✅ A solid SEO strategy in place

Which will get you well on your way to exponential revenue and growth. Plus you get to target all your website visitors whenever you do decide to run a marketing campaign- for FREE!

Part 2: Paid Advertising

Now, imagine running ads- whether on Facebook, Instagram, Google or even YouTube- without having a warmed up audience to start with. With no website, SEO strategy or tracking codes on your website, how do you track the people most interested in what you have to offer? Be ready for lots of audience testing, a higher cost per conversion, and an increased ad spend overall.

SEO + Paid Advertising in Synergistic Harmony

Here is where it gets cyclic:

what is the cycle for paid ads and seo

See how they work beautifully hand in hand? And to the clients I have had say to me, “But Ruheene, I only have a limited marketing budget, can’t I start with just ONE?”, I say: You always have a choice my friend, and yes, less is more. But eventually, you will end up paying for what you’re saving on now.

So it all boils down to one simple question: Where is the focus of your marketing efforts right now- long term growth or short term savings?
